To be honest, not the nicest car to look at. I would say it is the ugliest of the 3. But they will make up for it with the glorious 3.7L V8 sound.

Oh, and power wise: the car makes a combined 1000hp. 520hp for the V8, 420 from the electrical system. Although we probably will never see the full 1000hp in action because of the fuel limit.

It seems as if Toyota also has done enough testing to be up to pace from the beginning, as they report to have driven 18000km with the new LMP1. Not bad considering that Porsche is developing since 2012.

If it only would look like the early TSO30...

Not quite, it was a 3.4, but just like Audi, they increased the capacity to 3.7.

And I tell you, WEC is going to be the new F1.

I wanted to write a little article about the rise of WEC too, but I couldn't gather enough material. What I thought was really interesting is the amount of seats available at the big works teams. With every car being piloted by 3 drivers, there will be 18 full time drivers in the WEC. And they are all professionals chosen because of their speed - there are no paydrivers. Compare that to F1. If Nissan makes it in time, by 2015 24 professional racedrivers plus test and development drivers will be racing in LMP1 and get paid. Meanwhile, at least 6 guys in F1 are what I consider pay drivers.

I am coming at it with a different angle and that's awesome! I really want to go to the WEC race at COTA this year. And I agree with some of the drivers in F1 as gentlemen drivers.

Has Toyota not been developing since 2012? Did they not run Le Mans in 2012? Is this not an evolution of that car?

Porsche has been developing the 919 to 2014 regulations since 2012, Toyota started to develop the 2012 spec TS030 in 2011.

The 2014 cars are pretty new. A new chassis is requited, new aero, new suspension to fit the smaller tires, and an engine that uses 25% less fuel. I would say that the new Toyota is a 90% new car.

Oh I didn't realize the cars were that much different thank you for clearing that up.

Where did you read the reports on pace - I'd love to check it out. I know Porsche and Audi tested at Sebring but how does Toyota know how much pace they really have? Or is that based on reliability?

Toyota themselves said that they are on pace, and as far as I know they haven't had any major issues with the car - a remarkable achievement that would lead to good pace as they already had enough time to configure the complex drivetrain to match the suspension and to make the 040 perfectly driveable. The integration of hybrid elements and great suspension work was always very strong at Toyota, they even beat Audi on that.

Porsche on the other hand was fighting vibrations from the engine and only solved that in December 2013. They therefore hadn't had good reliability and speed until 3 months ago. Plus they have a lack of experience.

And from what I heard about a report on the new R18, the Audi is proving to be fast (nearly as quick as the old car) but a bit fragile.

They won the silverstone race :D 1st and 2nd. so yeah that thing is ugly as heck but it works. :)
